The New It-Bag Brands Challenging Legacy Luxury Houses
For the longest time, luxury handbags felt like an exclusive club. If you wanted an investment piece, the conversation almost always began and ended with the same names- Hermes, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Gucci. Every season brought a fresh colourway, a celebrity campaign or another waitlist, and we collectively agreed these were the bags worth chasing.
But then came the rise of quiet luxury. Perhaps we all grew a little tired of seeing the same 3 bags on every airport carousel, front row and Instagram feed. Or maybe luxury shoppers simply became more discerning. Today, carrying a handbag isn't just about owning an iconic logo, but discovering something that feels personal, exclusive, and is not on everyone else's arm.
Enter the new generation of It-bag brands.

These labels aren't trying to dethrone the old guard overnight, nor are they chasing viral moments through oversized logos. Instead, they're building cult followings through impeccable craftsmanship, distinctive design languages and compelling stories. Think sculptural silhouettes, artisanal leatherwork and founders who are just as obsessed with functionality as they are with aesthetics.
Take Polène, the Parisian label that has quietly become a favourite among fashion editors for its architectural shapes and buttery leather. Its Numéro Dix and Cyme bags have become the unofficial uniform of those who appreciate understated elegance over obvious branding.
Then there's Métier, the London-based house creating beautifully engineered leather goods for travellers and modern professionals. Every compartment, pocket and stitch is designed with purpose, proving that practicality can be just as luxurious as prestige.

French heritage label Moreau Paris is also enjoying a well-deserved renaissance. Founded in the 19th century, the maison has stayed largely under the radar compared to its more famous counterparts, making its monogrammed totes and refined leather bags feel refreshingly exclusive.
Another name quietly entering the luxury conversation is Ateliers Auguste, whose minimalist leather bags celebrate timeless Parisian craftsmanship without relying on flashy logos. Similarly, Leo et Violette has won over a generation of shoppers looking for clean lines, premium materials and exceptional value.
Across the Atlantic, Savette has emerged as one of fashion's most coveted new names. Its structured silhouettes and signature hardware have made appearances on everyone from editors to Hollywood tastemakers, while Aupen became an overnight sensation after celebrities like Taylor Swift and Hailey Bieber were repeatedly spotted carrying its sleek, minimalist designs.

Meanwhile, Demellier London continues to blur the line between accessible luxury and high fashion, offering beautifully crafted bags that have become favourites of royals, celebrities and fashion insiders alike. And if sculptural design is your thing, Hereu, the Spanish leather goods label inspired by Mediterranean craftsmanship, has mastered the art of understated statement bags.
What's most interesting isn't that these brands exist, it's why they're succeeding now. The answer is simple. Luxury consumers are now asking different questions. Who made this? Where was it crafted? Will I still love it in ten years? Does it feel like me?
It's the same shift that has transformed fashion more broadly. Quiet confidence has replaced conspicuous consumption, craftsmanship has become the ultimate flex, and exclusivity is increasingly defined by discovery rather than scarcity.
Will Hermès or Chanel lose their crowns anytime soon? Unlikely. Icons remain icons for a reason. But the coolest bag in the room today often isn't the one everyone recognises. It's the one everyone wants to know more about.
