Luxury has always been about more than what meets the eye. And nothing’s better when two worlds of luxury collide with a shared interest for perfection. That’s what took centre stage in Delhi this September, as BMW India introduced its new 7 Series range alongside a special showcase of designer Tarun Tahiliani’s Autumn Winter 2026.

The latest BMW 7 Series arrives with a more commanding interpretation of BMW’s luxury design. Its exterior has been sharpened into a distinctly monolithic silhouette, with the illuminated BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille acting as its most recognisable signature. Flanking it are new BMW Individual crystal headlights, whose diamond-cut glass elements create a distinctive light effect. The lighting theme continues through the car, giving the flagship a sense of theatre even before you step inside.

But the real story of the 7 Series is what happens in the cabin, particularly in the back seat. BMW has treated the rear compartment more like a private lounge. Executive Lounge seating allows the rear passenger to recline into a more relaxed position, while increased ambient lighting and premium materials add to the cocooning effect. At the centre of the entertainment experience is BMW’s enhanced 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen, designed to turn the rear cabin into a cinematic space.

The technology is equally ambitious. The new 7 Series incorporates BMW Panoramic Vision, the brand’s latest head-up display concept, alongside BMW Operating System X and, for the first time in the model, a dedicated passenger screen. A Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround-sound system, BMW Individual upholstery and extensive comfort functions further blur the line between luxury automobile and private lounge.

And then there is the choice of powertrain. BMW is offering the new 7 Series in India across both petrol and fully electric formats, giving buyers two very different interpretations of flagship performance. The new BMW 740 M Sport produces 400hp from its 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine and can sprint from 0–100km/h in 5.4 seconds. Its electric counterpart, the BMW i7 50 xDrive, makes 455hp and offers up to 728km of WLTP range, with its 111.5kWh battery capable of adding up to 252km of range in 10 minutes when using high-power charging.

At the top of the range sits the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, the most powerful 7 Series ever made. With 650hp, 0–100km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h, it brings BMW M performance into the brand’s flagship electric sedan. Unlike the i7 50 xDrive, the M70 is offered as a completely built-up unit in India.

The India story is significant, too. The new BMW i7 is now locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, making India only the second country after Germany where the electric flagship is manufactured. The 740 M Sport and i7 50 xDrive M Sport start at ₹1.95 crore each, ex-showroom, while the i7 M70 xDrive is priced at ₹2.65 crore. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 2026.

Where the 7 Series Meets India Modern

The launch unfolded alongside Tarun Tahiliani’s Autumn Winter 2026 collection, bringing his India Modern vocabulary into the evening. Tahiliani’s collection explored the tension between structure and fluidity through sculpted corsetry, weightless pre-draped sarees, architectural lehengas, sharply tailored jumpsuits and elevated separates. Byzantine grandeur, Rococo florals, Pichwai, Zubeida, Crystal Relic, Impressionism and Chantilly lace informed different chapters of the collection, with embroidery, crystal work, metallic surfaces and heritage textiles giving the clothes their richness.

BMW

BMW Group India President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar described the showcase as a meeting of two worlds united by craftsmanship, innovation and an evolving understanding of luxury. The idea feels particularly relevant to the new 7 Series: its appeal is no longer confined to performance or exterior presence. It is about personalisation, technology, comfort and the experience of being inside the car.
